Parties ‘still ignoring the Elephant in the room’ on immigration
Outspoken MEP
Nigel Farage has branded Gordon Brown’s latest attempt at an immigration
policy as ‘utterly disingenuous’ and ‘completely meaningless’, and has
appealed for ‘straight talking’ on the issue.
The leader of
UKIP in the EU was responding to the Prime Minister’s assertion that a quota
system would be unworkable, preferring to opt for a points system and
requiring employers to advertise jobs locally before being allowed to import
workers from overseas.
Brown has been
under pressure to revamp the immigration policy as the issue rises to the
top of the political agenda.
Farage said:
“Once again, Gordon Brown has totally misled the public.
“We currently
have an open-door policy towards Eastern Europeans which he didn’t utter a
single syllable about.
“While we are
members of the EU, we can do nothing to stop the flood of migrants from
Eastern Europe. His government hoodwinked the public when they sold us the
idea of expanding the EU, dreadfully underestimating the amount of
immigrants that would come to the UK when the likes of Poland and the Czech
Republic joined.
“What’s really
scary, and I’m not surprised Brown didn’t mention it, is that the EU are
working on a common immigration policy, so in two to three years the UK
won’t be able to decide who comes in from anywhere in the world.
“This is not
just about jobs and social welfare. Yesterday we heard that we can’t even
deport an African rapist, because the EU won’t let us.”
According to
Migration Watch, a charity that monitors immigration figures, and suggests
policy, a migrant comes to settle in the UK every minute.
Turkey has been
pressing EU member states to allow them to join. So far Germany has been the
only country to voice opposition to the move, that could see another
74million people eligible to work and live anywhere in the EU.
Farage added:
“Currently 5000 new people come to settle in the UK every week, and if the
EU allow Turkey to join there will be many Turks wanting to come here, to
escape the poverty in their own country.
“ We need
re-take control of our borders, and the only way to do that is by getting
out of the EU, but you won’t hear either the Labour, the Tories or the Lib
Dems saying that.”

Farage condemns new drink drive plans
Monday, 15th March 2010
A
death sentence has been passed on every public house in the country,
according to UKIP’s straight talking Nigel Farage MEP.The prophecy of doom for pubs, already hit hard by the smoking ban, came after it emerged a government review will recommend a ‘one drink and you’re banned’ policy to drink driving.Under the new rules, the limit would be reduced from its current level, where a man can drink up to two pints of normal strength lager and still be permitted to drive, to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, meaning the average man would be over the limit after one pint, and a woman, after just half-a-pint.“This proposal will be the death of every pub in the country with no particular benefit.” Said Mr Farage on hearing of the proposal: “It’s the Nanny State gone mad.”
Big three welcome Turkey into EU
Tuesday, 9th March 2010
The Foreign Secretary, William Hague and the Lib/Dems,
Ed Davey have all agreed Turkey should join the EU. "They seem to care more
about the Levant than they do about the UK", said Nigel Farage. "In order to
appear inclusive they reject the opinion of a vast majority of their own
country."Between them the three establishment parties show yet again the
utter contempt they feel for the people of Britain. No poll has ever
suggested that Turkish entry into the EU would be
anything other than wildly against the wishes of Britain"."To witter on
about immigration policy in the EU as Ed Davey did is absurd, and if he
doesn't know it then he should resign from his post. The fact is that the UK
can do nothing about immigration from within the EU, and if Turkey was to
join then 74 million Turks could, if they wished, move here. The provisions
available to stop them are meaningless as the evidence from Bulgaria and
Romania has shown." he went on."Milliband says
it is 'remarkable' that there is agreement amongst the three establishment
parties. It is not remarkable at all. They all believe that Britain should
cease to be a self governing country, just as they agree we should remain in
the EU. They are a shower who deserve to be thrown out of all their offices
as soon as this election finally comes."The three establishment party
Foreign spokesman were talking at the Chatham House on Friday.Okay, I apologise to bank clerks
Tuesday 2nd March 2010
Nigel Farage says he will apologise to bank clerks the world over for his denouncement of the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy in the European Parliament last week.Mr Farage, who is leader of UKIP's MEPs, was speaking on BBC2’s Daily Politics show after being called to a disciplinary meeting with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek in Brussels earlier in the day.“It was what I would call an interview without coffee,” Mr Farage told show host Jo Coburn. “I tried to talk to the president of the Parliament about freedom of speech, especially in Parliament from elected members, but he has asked me to apologise.“He wants me to apologise to Herman Van Rompuy, He wants me to apologise to the European Parliament and he wants me to apologise to the people of Belgium.”Asked if he would make those apologies, Mr Farage replied: “I will apologise to bank clerks the world over. If I caused them offence I am very sorry. But if I am not allowed to stand up and say that I think it is wrong that this man has got a job which pays him a salary bigger than Obama’s and that is because the Lisbon Treaty went through without us having a referendum... then what sort of democracy is there in this EU?”Speaking from Brussels, Mr Farage said that his comments were nothing compared to the language used in the House of Commons and in parliaments all over the world. Here's what he told the press in Brussels:

Nigel blasts EC president as 'damp rag'
Wednesday, 24th February 2010
UKIP MEP Leader Nigel Farage caused uproar in the European Parliament today when he told the new European Council President that he had the "charisma of a damp rag".He compared the former Belgian prime minister to a "low-grade bank clerk" and said he came from a "non-country".The attack, which stunned the chamber, came as Mr Von Rompuy made his maiden appearance in parliament in Brussels."I don't want to be rude," Mr Farage began, before launching into a personal attack lasting several minutes."Who are you? I'd never heard of you, nobody in Europe had ever heard of you," Mr Farage thundered, as noisy disapproval at his intervention in the chamber rose.See the video below to see why Vom Rompuy was so upset.
Mosque plans a security problem
Monday, 22nd February 2010
Plans
to give the go-ahead to a mosque featuring minarets that would tower above
the parade ground at one of Britain's leading military academies have been
described as "chilling" by UKIP.Party spokesmen Nigel Farage said that
not only had the mosque in Camberley, Surrey, become a contentious local
planning issue, it also needed to be considered in terms of national
security."With minarets towering 30m high there
is a clear view of the parade ground at Sandhurst, where the Queen and other
leading Royals are often in attendance for military functions," said Mr
Farage."The potential for a serious breach of
security is clear for all to see."And what were the Conservatives who run
Surrey Heath Council doing in ignoring the advice of their planning officer
in green lighting this proposal which will also see the demolition of a
listed building?"UKIP's Prospective Parliamentary
Candidate in Surrey Heath, Mark Stroud, will campaigning to put pressure on
the Tory Council to prevent this development... a development that puts a
chill through the heart of the Camberley community."Read how the News of the World reported this story here.
